Man attempts to steal cartload of merchandise with police in the same store

An RNC officer investigating an unrelated matter at a Mount Pearl business on Saturday afternoon ended up arresting a man in a separate incident.

Around 2:20 p.m., a member was on scene when a 54-year-old man allegedly attempted to steal a shopping cart full of merchandise.

The officer quickly intervened and apprehended the suspect.

The man is charged with one count of theft.
