Man arrested for impaired driving with children on board #nltraffic

Springdale RCMP arrested a man for impaired driving with two children in this vehicle.

On Thursday afternoon police received a report that a truck was travelling all over the roadway on the Trans-Canada Highway near Baie Verte Junction. While responding, officers received another report of a suspected impaired driver from a separate motorist advising that a similar truck was now pulled over on the side of the highway near Sheppardville.

When police conducted a traffic stop, the driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the detachment for breath testing and provided breath samples that were two and a half times the legal limit.

The children were transported to the detachment and the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development were contacted to assess the situation. Family members were contacted and are now caring for the children.

The man’s licence was suspended and the truck was seized and impounded.

He will appear in court at a later date.
