Man arrested after police seize loaded handgun and drugs in St. John’s

RNC arrested a 20-year-old man early Monday morning after responding to a weapons complaint in the centre city area.

Around 2:30 a.m. on August 11, officers were called to reports of masked individuals armed with weapons. Officers quickly located the suspects and discovered a loaded handgun and illegal drugs on one of the men.

The accused faces multiple firearm-related charges, including careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He is also charged with possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, possession of a firearm contrary to a court order, breach of probation, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The man was held in custody pending a court appearance.
