Man arrested after making threat on Facebook

The RCMP in Clarenville arrested a 45-year-old man after he allegedly made threats on Facebook.

Police say Craig Toope made comments on social media on February 17. The post in question contained an image of a man with a firearm, with threats towards an officer at the Clarenville RCMP Detachment and employees of the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at a residence in Bunyan’s Cove where a handgun-style airsoft bb gun, matching the one pictured in the post, was located and seized.

Toope was arrested without incident in Bunyan’s Cove. He was released from custody on conditions and is charged with two counts of uttering threats.

The investigation is continuing.

Police are reminding the public that content posted online which constitutes a criminal offence will be investigated, with charges laid where appropriate.
