A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle in downtown St. John’s.
RNC officers attempted to stop a vehicle while patrolling Merrymeeting Road at about 8:25 a.m. on May 21. Police said the driver refused to stop and fled the area.
Officers disengaged from the vehicle out of concern for public safety. Police later learned the vehicle had been reported stolen.
The vehicle was later located backing out of a driveway at a downtown residence. Officers were able to block in the vehicle and arrest the lone male occupant without incident.
The man has been charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime. He was held in custody to appear in court.
