A 47-year-old man is facing multiple charges after attempting to flee from police in Seal Cove, Conception Bay South, on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 1:35 p.m. RNC officers were conducting general patrols in the area when they noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road without any clear reason. When the driver became aware of the approaching police vehicle, he sped off in an apparent attempt to evade officers.

The driver pulled into a nearby driveway and fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away.

During the investigation, officers discovered a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. Police say the driver was under court-ordered conditions not to operate a vehicle and to remain in his residence. He also had a suspended driver’s licence.

The vehicle was seized, and the man was charged with numerous firearms-related offences, as well as breaching a court order. He was held in custody to appear in court.
