Man arrested after fleeing from police

The RCMP arrested an 18-year-old man after he failed to stop for RCMP Traffic Services East at an attempted traffic stop in Dildo on December 29.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Dildo after noticing that the vehicle’s lights were then turned off. The vehicle then fled from police at a high rate of speed in a residential area. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

The vehicle and driver were located a short time later. The man, who showed signs of drug impairment, tested positive for cannabis on roadside drug screening equipment and was arrested for drug impaired driving.

His licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

The man faces charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and drug impaired driving.

He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
