Man arrested after confronting police with hammer in West End of St. John’s

A 39-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night following a confrontation with police in the west end of St. John’s.
Just before 10:00 p.m., RNC officers responded to a report of uttering threats at a residence. Upon arrival, officers were met by a man holding a hammer. After a brief standoff, the man dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.
He is facing multiple charges, including uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of a release order.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
