Man arrested after causing a disturbance on a plane


A Delta Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Wednesday after a passenger became intoxicated and was causing a disturbance on the aircraft.


RCMP arrested 41-year-old Joao Pedro Hendriques Mota Calado once the plane touched down.


Reports from the crew indicated that the man assaulted a number of flight attendants and uttered threats towards some of the crew and any law enforcement officers who may board the plane.


Police boarded the plane and the man was arrested without incident.


The accused was charged with assault, mischief over $5000.00, and uttering threats and he is also facing charges under the Aeronautics Act.


No one was injured during the incident.


The flight originated in Amsterdam and was destined for Detroit. It departed Happy Valley-Goose Bay once the passenger was removed.
