A 30-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after attempting to flee police during a traffic stop in Mount Pearl.

RNC officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 10 in the area of Topsail Road. Police said the driver sped away at a high rate of speed before travelling up the road to an area where multiple police vehicles had just concluded a separate investigation.

With no avenue to continue, the driver stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Police charged the man with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and breaching a court order prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle.

He was also ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while suspended, driving without insurance, failing to stop at a red light, and failing to notify authorities of a transfer of vehicle ownership.

The vehicle was seized, and the man was transported to the lockup and held for court later in the morning.
