Makkovik RCMP Arrest Man Threatening Police With a Knife

Police responded to a request to attend a residence in Makkovik.

Upon arrival, police entered the home into a confined space where 34-four-year-old Thomas Evans-Dyson was holding a large knife.

He pointed it at the officers and threatened to kill them.

Officers began verbal negotiations, while one officer drew a service pistol and the other a taser in response to the threat. Police were able to de-escalate the situation, using tools of their training, which ended with Evans-Dyson dropping the knife and cooperating with police commands. He was taken into custody without incident.

Evans-Dyson was taken into police custody after threatening police with a large knife.

He attended court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and was charged with uttering threats, assault with a weapon, assault of a police officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released by the court on a number of conditions and is scheduled to re-appear on October 13, 2020.
