MADD Canada hosts Nick Coates Impaired Driving Awards

Ten RNC officers were acknowledged on Friday for removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

The RNC officers who were recognized were:

Gold

• Cst. Neil Gibbons, 12 arrests

• Cst. Kyle Morrissey, 12 arrests

• Cst. Michael Burton, 14 arrests

• Cst. Geoff Heffernan, 15 arrests

• Cst. Aaron T. White, 19 arrests

Silver

• Cst. Evan Bennett, eight arrests

• Cst. Michael Carter, eight arrests

• Cst. Deirdre Halliday, nine arrests

• Cst. Michael Shea, nine arrests

• Cst. Shane McClafferty, 11 arrests

Cst. Aaron T. White was additionally recognized as a Top Performer.

There were seven RCMP officers recognized:

Gold award winners are:

• Constable Caleb Pellerin (Traffic Services West)

• Constable Stephen Miller (Grand Falls-Windsor)

• Constable Janet Reddy (Holyrood)

This year’s RCMP silver award recipients are:

• Constable Gina King (Traffic Services East)

• Constable Bradley Layman (Burin Peninsula)

• Constable Mackenzie McCoy (Harbour Grace)

• Constable Jarrett Thorne (Traffic Services Central)

Constables Pellerin, Layman, Reddy, Thorne and McCoy are all returning award recipients.

For the third year in a row, the title of RCMP Top Performer was awarded to Constable Caleb Pellerin of RCMP Traffic Services West.

MADD Canada hosted the annual Team Nick Coates Awards, recognizing police officers for their efforts to detect and apprehend impaired drivers. The award is named in honour of Nick Coates, who was killed by an impaired driver in August of 2013.
