Lost berry picker rescued west of Glovertown
An elderly berry picker was rescued by the RCMP and Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue on Monday, after becoming lost in the woods west of Glovertown.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Monday evening, the Glovertown RCMP received a report that an elderly man had become lost while berry picking, was diabetic and had no provisions.
Police officers from the area responded and began searching. RCMP Police Dog Services and Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue were deployed. Through the use of a drone, the man, who needed medical care, was located by an officer with RCMP Traffic Services Central.
The lost man advised then that he had become separated from a friend who was also berry picking. The man was safely transported out of the wooded area by Bonavista Bay Search and Rescue and brought to hospital for medical attention.
The second berry picker, who was unaware of what had happened to his friend, was brought out of the woods by police.
