Motorists travelling through Whitbourne can expect traffic delays beginning next week as bridge repair work gets underway at the Whitbourne Underpass.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says repairs at the underpass, located at the interchange of the Trans-Canada Highway and Route 80, are scheduled to begin on July 20 and continue through Sept. 30.
To allow the work to proceed, the southbound lane on Route 80 heading toward Whitbourne, along with the centre turning lane, will be closed for the duration of the project.
The northbound lane on Route 80 will remain open, while nearby ramps and access points will continue to be accessible. Traffic crossing the bridge will be controlled through traffic signals and signage.
Officials say the repair project is not expected to affect traffic flow on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Drivers travelling through the area are being advised to plan for possible delays, slow down in the construction zone and obey all posted signs and traffic control measures.
