The Newfoundland and Labrador government is expropriating land required for the Trans-Canada Highway twinning project between Whitbourne and La Manche Siding.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is proceeding under Section 3(b) of the Expropriation Act, which allows land to be acquired for road and bridge construction, repair and maintenance.

The government says property owners will be compensated if their land is expropriated or negatively affected by the process.

The department has retained a surveyor for the project area and has begun identifying and notifying affected property owners. Notices will also be posted at locations throughout the area.

Property owners who believe their land may be affected but have not been contacted can email TI@gov.nl.ca.

The announcement follows an Oct. 16 notice regarding land expropriation for the central section of the twinning project between Grand Falls-Windsor and Bishop’s Falls.
