Inflation rate increases

In Canada, the inflation rate increased to 4 percent in August.

In July there was a 3.3 percent increase. The increase was largely the result of higher year-over-year prices for gasoline.

In addition to facing higher energy prices, Canadians paid more for rent and mortgage interest in August.

The price growth for groceries has slightly slowed but remains elevated.
