Hydro is issuing a power warning for the island, effective Saturday morning, Jan. 24, and is asking customers to conserve electricity.
The warning is due to ongoing frazil ice issues at the Bay d’Espoir hydroelectric plant combined with high power demand. Customers are urged to reduce electricity use to help maintain system stability.
Hydro says customers can help by:
Limiting the use of hot water and large appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and dryers
Turning off unnecessary lights
Lowering heat in rooms that are not in use
Crews, along with divers and specialized equipment, continue efforts to remove ice at Bay d’Espoir. Further updates will be provided as work continues.
