Hurricane Larry could impact Newfoundland

Hurricane Larry could have an impact on the weather in Newfoundland on Friday night and Saturday.

The latest track from the National Hurricane Center puts the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, and portions of central Newfoundland in the cone of uncertainty.

Larry currently has maximum sustained winds near 195 km/h with higher gusts. Larry is a category 3 hurricane.

Over the next several day's Larry is expected to gradually weaken.

It remains too early to discuss specific impacts but and rain and strong winds are expected. Wind gusts over 100 km/h are possible.

As the track becomes clearer over the next couple of days, we will have a better understanding of what impacts are likely.

Additionally, significant swells are expected along the east coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada by midweek and continue through the end of the week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
