Households to receive COVID-19 antigen tests

Dr. Janice Fitzgerald

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald provided an update this afternoon to discuss a new rapid antigen test initiative.

In the coming weeks, every household will receive free COVID-19 antigen tests. The tests will be distributed via Canada Post. Every household will receive two test kits for a total of ten tests. Households will start to receive these tests in late November to early December.

People needing more tests can get them at local MHA constituency offices and public libraries.

With Influenza cases on the rise, the province has not seen any Influenza outbreaks yet. The peak of the flu season in Newfoundland and Labrador is typically late February to March.

Fitzgerald is urging people to get a flu shot.

COVID-19 numbers remain at a stable number.

Without a public health emergency, the Chief Medical Officer of Health cannot put a mask mandate in place. But the recommendation to wear a mask remains in place.
