The HMCS Yellowknife has begun a seven-week deployment in the Caribbean Sea as part of Operation CARIBBE.

Operation CARIBBE, launched in 2006, is Canada’s contribution to United States-led multinational efforts to counter illicit narcotics trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, and to strengthen regional security.

During the deployment, HMCS Yellowknife will conduct maritime interdiction operations aimed at disrupting the movement of illegal trafficking vessels. The ship will work alongside partner-nation surface vessels and maritime patrol aircraft, carrying out lawful boardings and inspections.

The mission is separate from and unrelated to other U.S. operations in the region.
