A hiker in medical distress was rescued from the East Coast Trail on Tuesday night.

Tre RCMP in Ferryland responded to a call from the Medical Communications Centre around 8:00 p.m. advising of a hiker stranded on The Spout, a section of the East Coast Trail near Bay Bulls.

Police, along with the Rovers Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services personnel and the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was engaged due to the remote location of the hiker.

The stranded hiker and her companion, who made the call for assistance, were located and safely rescued the following morning.
