High-speed chase ends in arrest on Torbay Road

A late-night police pursuit ended dramatically early Wednesday morning after a driver attempted to evade officers in downtown St. John’s.
Police tried to stop a vehicle around 1:00 a.m., but the driver refused to comply.
The pursuit led officers onto the Trans-Canada Highway, where a spike belt was deployed near Torbay Road in an effort to disable the vehicle.
Despite driving on flat tires, the suspect continued for a short distance before abandoning the car in the middle of Torbay Road and attempting to flee on foot.
Officers quickly pursued and arrested the 34-year-old man.
The suspect was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and breach of probation.
