Heavy snow for central and eastern Newfoundland

Portions of central and eastern Newfoundland will start the weekend on a snowy note. A low well put in the open Atlantic will bring heavy snow to parts of Newfoundland beginning this evening and overnight and lasting through Saturday for the Avalon and perhaps to Sunday over central Newfoundland. The heaviest snow will fall across central Newfoundland. Snowfall Forecast:

  • St. John's 15-25 cm

  • Carbonear 15-20 cm

  • Placentia 10-15 cm

  • Gander 25-35 cm

  • Springdale 10-15 cm

  • Corner Brook 2-5 cm

Across the Avalon Peninsula, snow may mix with or change to rain at times making the snow heavy to shovel. Winds across central and eastern Newfoundland will gust to 70 km/h at times causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.
