Heated Seat Catches on Fire, Torches Vehicle

The RCMP is investigating following a vehicle fire that happened on Route 74 on the Heart’s Content Barrens on Monday.

Police received a report of a Ford Edge on fire. Police, as well as volunteer firefighters from Victoria, Salmon Cove/Perry’s Cove, Heart’s Content and New Perlican, attended the scene.

The driver observed smoke coming from the heated passenger seat of the vehicle, pulled over to the side of the road and was able to escape without injury.

The vehicle, which was fully engulfed in flames, is a total loss.

Road conditions were poor with whiteouts and reduced visibility.

The road was impassable while the fire was extinguished and the vehicle was removed.
