A man from Grand Falls-Windsor has been fined and prohibited from hunting after being convicted of discharging a firearm from a provincial highway.
The conviction followed an investigation by the Resource Enforcement Division of the Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands.
Joseph Blackmore was convicted in Grand Falls-Windsor Provincial Court on March 4, 2026, on one count of discharging a firearm from a provincial highway. He was fined $1,000, handed a five-year hunting prohibition and ordered to forfeit a firearm and moose connected to the incident.
The incident occurred west of Grand Falls-Windsor near the Grand Falls Golf Club.
Under the Wild Life Act, it is illegal to discharge a firearm from or across a railway, highway, public road or private road. The legislation also prohibits discharging a firearm within 1,000 metres of a school, playground or athletic field, or within 300 metres of a dwelling.
