A 38-year-old man is facing multiple criminal and traffic charges following a traffic stop in Grand Falls-Windsor last week, according to the RCMP.

Police say Brendan Mullins was arrested just before 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 after officers attempted to check on him as part of a newly established Offender Management Initiative.

RCMP say Mullins had been released under strict court-ordered conditions the previous week and was found to be in breach of those conditions. Officers located him in Grand Falls-Windsor and initiated a traffic stop. When police attempted to arrest him for breaching his release order, he allegedly refused to cooperate, resisted arrest, became physically combative and assaulted a police officer.

Following the arrest, police determined the vehicle Mullins was operating was uninsured and unregistered, and that he was driving while suspended. The vehicle was seized and impounded.

RCMP say Mullins continued to resist police and refused to cooperate after being transported to the Grand Falls-Windsor detachment.

Mullins has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and two counts of assaulting a police officer. He was also ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for driving without insurance, driving while suspended and operating an unlicensed vehicle.

He was held in custody to appear in court.
