Government introduces measures to address cost of living



There was an announcement this afternoon with Premier Furey, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Coady, and Bernard Davis, Minister Responsible for Labour, to address the cost of living. The government announced a temporary reduction in the gas tax by 8 cents per litre. This reduction will remain in place until January 2023. There will be incremental increases in the minimum wage reaching $15.00 by October 2023. With regards to home heating oil, there will be an application for a one time payment to individuals based on family income. Those with income less than $100,000 will receive $500. Those with income between $100,000 and $150,000 will receive between $200 to $500.
