Furey against cap on greenhouse gas emissions in oil industry

Premier Andrew Furey says the provincial government is examining the federal government's cap on greenhouse gas emissions and working with industry and stakeholders.

Furey says he will not support a cap on oil production in this province. Such a cap could impact Terra Nova, West White Rose, and Bay du Nord.

The proposed emissions cap regulations would establish a national cap-and-trade system that would apply to upstream oil and gas activities including onshore and offshore oil and gas production; oil sands production and upgrading; natural gas production and processing; and the production of LNG.
