The City of St. John’s is offering 500 free radon test kits to residents.

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that enters homes through contact with the ground. When radon builds up to elevated levels, exposure can increase the risk of developing lung cancer. The only way to determine radon levels is through testing.

There are free radon test kits available for St. John’s residents as part of the Take Action on Radon Program, 100 per ward.

To request a kit, residents must register online. Kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registered participants will be sent an invitation to attend a free radon information session on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The session will cover the health effects of radon, why it’s a concern, and Health Canada recommendations.
