Fleeing vehicle stopped by spike belt

The RNC was forced to use a spike belt to disable a vehicle that refused to stop for police.


At 10:37 p.m. on Monday the RNC attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Petty Harbour Road, the vehicle refused to stop and sped away from police. The same vehicle was located in the area of Manuals a short time later. The vehicle again refused to stop.

Officers then used a spike belt to disable the vehicle.


Then the driver and passenger fled on foot but were tracked by K9 and arrested.


The 32-year-old male driver was charged with:

  • Flight from police

  • Assault with a weapon

  • Dangerous operation and

  • Breach of release order


The 37-year-old female passenger was charged with:

  • Breach of release order (three counts)

  • Breach of probation (two counts)


She was additionally charged in two other RNC investigations with:

  • Theft

  • Breach of release order (three counts) and

  • Breach of probation (two counts)

  • Possession of property obtained by crime


Both were held for court.
