Evacuation Order issued for portions of Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s

The Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Fire Department has issued an Emergency Evacuation Order due to smoke advisory from a structure fire.
Effective immediately residents in the area of Bridgets Road, Harding’s Hill, Boulder Lane, Somerton Lane, and bottom of Anglican Church Road are being asked to evacuate immediately due to a smoke advisory resulting from a nearby structure fire.
Emergency crews are currently on scene responding to the fire, and heavy smoke in the area is creating conditions that may pose a risk to public health and safety.
The Recreation Centre will be open and available for residents who require a place to go during the evacuation.
Residents should also note the following service impacts and safety measures:
Garbage collection in the affected area will not take place today.
Temporary water disruptions may occur as crews use the water system for fire suppression efforts.
The road in the area is closed and restricted to local traffic only.
Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely.
