Municipalities and community groups across Newfoundland and Labrador can apply for funding to support wildfire prevention efforts through FireSmart Canada’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day awards.

Applications are being accepted until Jan. 31, 2026. Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is officially set for May 2, 2026, but activities can be held on any date between May and November.

Successful applicants are eligible to receive $500 to support local FireSmart initiatives aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving community preparedness.

Newfoundland and Labrador has participated in the program since 2019. In 2025, a record 44 municipalities, fire departments and community organizations received funding, up from 13 recipients in 2024 and 10 in 2023.
