Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to two separate fire incidents on Thursday in St. John’s.

The first call came in at approximately 5:39 p.m. to firefighters after a neighbor called to report a residential structure fire on Springdale Street in downtown St. John’s. When firefighters arrived, smoke could be seen coming from a locked camper trailer. Firefighters laid an attack line and opened the lock door to the trailer. That incident appeared to be connected to the trailer.

Approximately fourteen minutes later, crews responded to a reported commercial structure fire behind Holy Heart High School on Bonaventure Avenue in an abandoned building. Two young people were walking by and called emergency services alerting them to the incident. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from a window caused by a wooden window frame. Crews removed the frame and hosed it off to make sure no hot spots were in the wood.

No injuries were reported in both incidents, it is unclear what caused both fires to start.
