Fire destroys vacant home and damages another in downtown St.John’s early Thursday morning

Shortly before 12:50 A.M. on Thursday Firefighters with St. John’s Regional Fire Department were notified by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary of smoke coming from a vacant property on Livingstone Street in downtown St. John’s.


Upon arrival firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire coming out of a vacant residential property. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze to one area, A ladder truck that was dispatched to the fire was setup on the back near Carters Hill Place in behind the houses on Livingstone Street to help contain the blaze.



Firefighters used Chainsaws and tools to cut holes from the outside of the property, firefighters also had to remove boarded-up windows and doors from the property so the fire could be knocked down. The houses in which are owned by Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation.


Firefighters remained on scene for numerous hours fighting the fire, The cause of the fire is under investigation.
