Fire breaks out in abandoned West-End home early Sunday morning

A fire has caused significant damage to a abandoned West-End home early Sunday morning in.


Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department got the call just after 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary that a abandoned residential property located on New Pennywell Road between Barkham Street and Beothuck Street was on fire.


When firefighters arrived on scene of the fire, they made quick work knocking down the fire and gaining access to the property which was boarded up. Firefighters remained on scene to ensure that the fire was under control and there were no hot spots remaining.


Traffic between Barkham Street and Beothuck Street was closed for a period of time as firefighters battled the blaze.


The property at the time of the fire was stated to have power. It is unknown what the cause of the fire is. There were no reported injuries.
