FFAW-Unifor is welcoming the provincial government’s decision to withdraw Newfoundland and Labrador’s support for a proposed National Marine Conservation Area on the province’s south coast.

FFAW-Unifor President Dwan Street said the decision respects fish harvesters and acknowledges concerns about the potential economic impact of the proposed conservation area.

Government formally withdrew from the agreement exploring the creation of a National Marine Conservation Area on Newfoundland’s south coast, a move that raises questions about the province’s commitment to long-term environmental protection.
