The Newfoundland and Labrador government has shifted responsibility for women and gender equality to Lela Evans, who has been sworn in as minister in addition to her existing cabinet roles.

Evans already serves as minister of Health and Community Services, minister of Mental Health and Addictions, minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, minister of Labrador Affairs, and minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

The swearing-in ceremony was held earlier in the day, with the oath administered by Raymond P. Whalen, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, acting as administrator.
