The Town of Badger is lifting its evacuation order today, allowing impacted residents to return home.
The RCMP, with support from Newfoundland and Labrador Ground Search and Rescue, will be on site to manage traffic and help ensure safe and timely access to the community.
A “welcome home” centre will operate at the Pentecostal Church, 35 Buchans Highway, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The site will provide information to residents on safely returning to their homes, and cleaning supplies will be available for those who need them.
Officials are urging residents to take extra precautions when re-entering homes or businesses, noting that hazards may still be present. People are advised to check structures carefully before entering and to proceed with caution to reduce the risk of injury.
Residents are also encouraged to contact their insurance providers to discuss potential claims, including issues related to mould. The province recommends documenting damage by taking photos or video and creating a list of damaged belongings.
A precautionary boil water advisory remains in effect for users of the town’s water supply.
Those using private wells are advised to disinfect them with chlorine and flush the system. Well water should not be consumed until testing confirms it is free of bacterial contamination.
