Ed Finn Passes Away


Ed Finn, Canadian trade unionist and journalist, editor, author and former Newfoundland politician, has died at the age of 94. He died on Sunday.


He went into journalism working for The Western Star from 1946 to 1953, he later served as editor to the Star. Finn and two other journalists quit at the Western Star after being ordered to only cover the Newfoundland logger's strike from the newspaper and government's perspective.


Finn was hired by the Canadian Labour Congress and persuaded to lead the Newfoundland Democratic Party into the 1959 provincial election.


In 2020, he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada.
