Early on Thursday morning staff at a licensed establishment in Corner Brook reported that a patron had consumed a number of alcoholic beverages and left the establishment driving away in an SUV type vehicle.

The driver was identified as a resident of Pasadena, NL. At approximately 1:45 a.m. RNC officers observed the vehicle driving east on the Trans-Canada Highway near Steady Brook.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle but the vehicle failed to stop for police and accelerated away at a high rate of speed exceeding 150 km/h.

RNC officers did not pursue the vehicle as it accelerated away and the Deer Lake RCMP were notified of the vehicle fleeing in the direction of Pasadena.

At approximately 1:58 a.m. RNC officers located the vehicle parked at a residence in Pasadena. Officers located the driver at the residence and was arrested without incident. The male, a 26-year-old resident of Pasadena, was subsequently charged with Impaired Driving , Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80 mg% as well as Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

He received a 90-day driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded. He was released and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date in September.
