Driver Clocked at 132 km/h Near Rocky Harbour Has Licence Suspended, Vehicle Seized

A 30-year-old Trout River man has had his driver's licence suspended and his vehicle impounded after being caught driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on Route 430.

According to the RCMP, the incident occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, when an officer observed a vehicle travelling at speeds of up to 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone south of Rocky Harbour.

Police conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a ticket for excessive speeding. His licence was suspended at the roadside, and the vehicle was seized and impounded.

The RCMP is reminding motorists to slow down and drive safely during the busy summer travel season, as roads across Newfoundland and Labrador see increased traffic from both residents and visitors.

Police say excessive speed remains one of the leading contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions.
