Driver Charged Following Fatal Impaired Driving Crash in St. John’s

A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal impaired driving collision that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man earlier this month in St. John’s.


The charges stem from a single-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. on June 12 near the intersection of Mayor Avenue and Newtown Road.


Police said four people were inside the vehicle when the collision occurred.


One of the occupants, a 24-year-old man, died as a result of his injuries. The three other occupants were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.


The RNC’s Accident Investigation section was called in to investigate the crash.


On June 23, collision reconstructionists charged Koushik Ghosh, 21, with impaired driving causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing death and two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.


Ghosh was also charged with operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration equal to or exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood causing death, as well as two counts of the same offence causing bodily harm.
