RCMP arrested a 32-year-old woman early Saturday morning after colliding with two police vehicles while attempting to flee.

Early on September 6, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle in Colliers. The driver did not stop for police, and officers did not pursue in the interest of public safety. The vehicle was located a short time later, and when police attempted to approach, the driver accelerated towards the police vehicles, crashing into both.

One of the police vehicles was extensively damaged. No officers were injured.

The driver, 32-year-old Desiree Lewis, was taken into police custody and has been charged with criminal flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and failure to comply with a Probation Order.

During her arrest, Lewis showed signs of drug impairment. Although she declined medical attention, she was provided a demand and transported to the hospital, where blood samples were collected.

Police are awaiting on the results of the forensic blood analysis.

Lewis appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded into custody over the weekend. On Monday, she was released by the court on strict conditions and is expected to make her next appearance in provincial court on October 22.

The investigation is ongoing with further charges possible.
