The City of St. John's says the Downtown Pedestrian Mall will return later this month, bringing patio dining, shopping, entertainment and community activities to Water Street throughout the summer.

The pedestrian mall will operate daily from June 25 to Sept. 7, closing a section of Water Street between Adelaide Street and Prescott Street to vehicle traffic from noon until 10 p.m.

City officials say this year's program will feature several new and returning attractions aimed at drawing residents and visitors downtown.

Among the additions is a new Activity Zone, described as an outdoor gathering space designed for people of all ages to relax, socialize and participate in free programming. Drop-in activities are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning July 7, weather permitting.

Local entertainers will also perform during weekly pop-up events on Fridays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting June 26.

The Mom Market will once again host Markets on Water on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning July 9, with additional Saturday markets planned for Aug. 8 and Aug. 22.

The city said community organizations will also have access to a dedicated event space to host activities and programs throughout the season.

In response to feedback from residents, businesses and the city's Inclusion Advisory Committee, accessible public washrooms have been relocated for the 2026 season. The facilities will now be located near the intersection of McBride's Hill and Water Street.

The city says accessibility features will include barrier-free routes, accessible parking and transportation options, accessible rest areas and navigation support through BlindSquare technologies.

On-street parking will remain available throughout the downtown area and will continue to be enforced on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking will be free after 6 p.m. on weekdays and throughout weekends.
