Douglas Snelgrove Found Guilty

A jury has returned a guilty verdict in the sexual assault case of RNC constable Douglas Snelgrove.

The 44-year-old Snelgrove was convicted of having sex with a young woman without her consent, while she was drunk, in 2014. At the time, he was on duty.

Snelgrove was not remanded to custody but will stay out on bail on conditions.

The trial was the third time that Snelgrove was tried for the offence. The other two cases resulted in the case being nullified after mistakes were made by judges.

The matter will be back in court on June 7.
