A 74-year-old man was arrested Saturday after police received a report of a firearm being pointed at people in Deer Lake.
RCMP say officers responded around 9:41 a.m. on Jan. 24 to a report of a man threatening others with a firearm in the area of First Avenue. Police attended the scene, ordered the man from his home and took him into custody without incident.
With assistance from the RCMP West District General Investigation Section, officers obtained a Criminal Code search warrant for the man’s residence. A pellet gun was seized during the search.
The man was later released from custody on strict conditions. He is expected to face charges, including pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His first court appearance is scheduled for March 24 in Corner Brook provincial court.
The investigation is continuing.
