CRTC launches free database to help identify Canadian music

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has launched a free, downloadable database designed to make it easier for broadcasters, artists and the public to identify Canadian music.
Announced October 29, the database brings together information previously spread across several industry sources, providing a centralized resource for identifying music that qualifies as Canadian content.
The CRTC says the new resource is intended to help Canadian artists gain greater exposure and make it easier for radio stations to identify and promote music that counts toward their Canadian content requirements.
The initial release includes a large selection of popular Canadian songs, with additional music expected to be added regularly.
Future updates will include new releases and older recordings, as well as more French-language, Indigenous and third-language music.
The commission is also inviting feedback from broadcasters, artists and members of the public as it works to improve the database and expand its collection.
The database is available to download free of charge through the CRTC.
