COVID-19 cluster in Stephenville area prompts move to Alert Level 4

Dr. Rosann Seviour, Medical Officer of Health, held an unscheduled media availability on Sunday to discuss COVID-19 cases in the Western Health region.


Communities in the St. George’s – Stephenville – Port au Port area on the west side of the Trans Canada Highway was moved to Alert Level 4. This includes the towns of St. George’s, Stephenville Crossing, Stephenville, Port au Port East and all towns on the Port au Port Peninsula. This also includes communities along Routes 460, 461, 462, 463 and 490.


There will be COVID-19 testing at the Stephenville Dome today.


On Sunday there were seven new cases reported. Of these cases, there were two in the Eastern Health region related to the cluster in Central Newfoundland. There was one case in Central Newfoundland related to the cluster. In Western Health there were four cases. There are 104 active cases.


The cluster on the West Coast includes 11 cases and 3 presumptive positive cases.


Anyone who visited Dominion in Stephenville on May 26 between 4:30 and 6:30 pm or Walmart from 5:00 to 7:00 pm is asked to arrange for COVID-19 testing.


There are three people in the hospital and 146,081 people have been tested.
