Corner Brook has presented a $44.7 million budget, a 6.7 percent increase.
There will be no change to residential or commercial property tax mill rates and no change to the water and sewer levy.
There will be improvements to transit in the city, including modernizing its fully accessible transit system, allowing users to pre-book rides, track buses in real-time, and make payments via app. The service will also be extended until 11:00 p.m., and the buses will begin to run on Saturdays.
There will be a 50 percent reduction in interest for residential and business property taxes. The city is imposing a $150 Waste Management Levy.
A new combined plow truck and salter will be purchased, and there will be dedicated resources for sidewalk snow clearing, with a particular focus on the downtown core.
The budget includes increased funding to attract investment and support local businesses and tourism, along with recreation and wellness.
