The provincial government provided an update on the new adult mental health and addictions hospital and parking garage in St. John's.

Work is continuing this summer to construct the 102-bed facility and parking garage at the Health Sciences Centre.

The latest work on the 240,000 square foot, the six-storey hospital includes the installation of underground water and sewer services as well as the construction of the concrete foundations.

The steel structure of the building is expected to begin later this summer and for construction of the hospital to be completed in late 2024.

Additionally, work is continuing to construct the parking garage, which will include parking spaces for 1,000 vehicles and charging stations for electric vehicles, on the northwest corner of the Health Sciences Centre campus.

The new 60-bed hostel to replace the Agnes Cowan Hostel, which was demolished to allow for the construction of the mental health hospital, will be located on the top floor of the new building.
